Translation of software for machinery and equipment

Rusdoc's other specialisation besides technical translations is called localisation of industrial software, which is much more complicated than PC software translation. We have been dealing with this since the establishment of our translation agency in 1995 and since the first major project - translation of technical documentation for wood processing equipment and software localisation of the control system. Since then, localisation orders have been running without a break until today.

Thanks to our many years of experience, we know this type of localisation better than anyone. Countless machines and equipment working in Russian companies have the interface in the Russian language in our translation. Translation of HMI software is our speciality, tried and tested in many projects in all kinds of fields.

Unfortunately, at many trade fairs and even in real life, you often see the software on machines either not translated by native speakers or delivered with the wrong coding. This should not be the case. Russian runs perfectly on all machines when translated correctly, and the issue of the correct display of Cyrillic characters has not been a problem for a long time.

Special features of industrial software translation

Localising software for industrial companies has its special features. It is not a normal and customary translation of documents as we are used to. Our translators should be able to imagine themselves as operators of the machine or plant. It would be best if the translator had the appropriate training, but we have to be realistic that this is not possible. That is why our Russian translators learn how the machine works before they start localising the software. A well-written instruction manual for it, which we also often translate, often helps too.

When translating machinery software into Russian, we as translators very often have a problem in that we usually have a limited number of characters at our disposal. Some software developers who create menus and control panels in English often forget that other languages, including Russian, need many more characters for the translation. But our translators solve this problem too, without any loss of content.
